I'm not a disorganized person. Or at least, that's what I tell myself.

But last winter, I lost my keys three times in seven days. Once they were in my coat pocket the whole time. Once they'd fallen behind the radiator. And once? I genuinely have no idea. They just showed up on the kitchen counter two days later, as if nothing had happened.

What Surprised Me About It

The keyring hole. Yes, really.

The AirTag doesn't have one. You have to buy a separate holder to clip it to your keys. That's annoying, and it adds to the cost.

The FineTrack comes with a built-in loop. Take it out of the box, thread it onto your keychain, and open the app. Done. No accessories, no waiting for delivery, no extra spending.

For a $5 tracker, that's a better out-of-the-box experience than a $29 AirTag.

Two years on one battery.

Most trackers need a new battery every year. The FineTrack runs for two on a standard CR2032 coin cell.

You can find those batteries in any pharmacy for almost nothing. But more importantly, you just... don't have to think about it. Set it up, forget about it, check back in 2027.

That kind of low-maintenance reliability is underrated.

It's loud enough to actually find things.

The original AirTag had a notoriously quiet beep. People complained about it constantly.

The FineTrack is louder. Not perfect in a noisy room, but in a normal situation, like keys under a jacket or a bag in another room, you'll hear it. That's the whole point, and it delivers.

The One Thing It Can't Do

No Precision Finding. That's the AirTag feature where your iPhone shows an arrow and tells you exactly how far away the tracker is.

With the FineTrack, when you're close, you follow the beep. That's it.

For most situations, that's totally fine. But in a noisy airport or a really messy space, you'll notice the difference.

Worth knowing before you buy. Not a dealbreaker for most people, but worth knowing.

What I Actually Use Mine For

• House keys (the whole reason I bought it)
• My gym bag, which has a talent for disappearing
• Carry-on luggage when I travel
• A spare in my backpack, just in case

Four items. Four trackers. One pack. That math works out really well.

So, Is It Worth Buying?

At $19.97 for four trackers, it's a very easy yes.

Does it do everything an AirTag does? No. The Precision Finding feature is genuinely better on Apple's own hardware.

But it uses the same global network, lasts longer on a battery, comes ready to use out of the box, and costs a fraction of the price.

If you've been putting off getting a tracker because AirTags felt expensive, this is the version that makes sense to start with. Most people won't feel the need to upgrade after.
