Circular Ring 3 Pro vs Oura Ring 5: Which Smart Ring Looks Better for 2027?
September 4, 2026 · 6 min read

Smart rings just got more interesting. Circular unveiled the Ring 3 Pro and Ring 3 Slim right before IFA 2026 opened, and the comparisons to Oura’s category-leading Ring 5 started immediately. Both rings chase the same goal — serious health tracking in a package small enough to forget you’re wearing. But they’re taking different paths to get there.
Here’s how they actually compare, and what’s still unknown.
The Headline Difference: Payments
This is where Circular breaks from the pack. Both the Ring 3 Pro and Ring 3 Slim add NFC contactless payment support with haptic vibration feedback on the finger. Tap to pay, no phone required. Oura has never offered this — its ring stays firmly in the health-and-recovery lane.
If “smart ring that also replaces your wallet” sounds appealing, Circular just claimed that territory first.
Health Tracking: Oura Still Has the Edge, For Now
Oura Ring 5 arrived with a genuinely reengineered sensor stack: two tri-color LED emitters, redesigned photodetectors, and a suite of features it calls Health Radar. That includes blood pressure signal trends, nighttime breathing pattern tracking, cardiovascular age estimates, and continuous heart rate across day, night, and activity. It also connects to physician-reviewed care programs in some regions, pairing wearable data with actual clinical context.
Circular’s answer is the Ring 3 Pro, which adds ECG with AFib detection — a feature Oura’s ring doesn’t currently offer. That’s a meaningful differentiator on paper. But ECG accuracy and regulatory clearance matter as much as the feature’s existence, and Circular hasn’t published independent validation data yet. The Ring 3 Slim skips ECG and keeps things simple, positioned as the lighter, everyday option alongside the Pro.
Oura’s five-plus years of sleep and HRV research, plus its ongoing peer-reviewed validation work, still give it more track record. Circular is newer to this level of health-sensor ambition.
Battery Life
Circular Ring 3 Pro is rated for up to 12 days per charge. Oura Ring 5 sits at 6 to 9 days. If battery anxiety is a dealbreaker, Circular currently has the advantage — though real-world battery life on a brand-new sensor stack is always worth waiting to see confirmed once reviewers get hands-on units.
Design and Comfort
Oura made size its whole pitch with the Ring 5: about 40 percent smaller in volume than the Ring 4, with a noticeably thinner, lighter build and a titanium shell. It’s currently one of the most refined rings on the market in terms of pure wearability.
Circular hasn’t published detailed dimensions for the Ring 3 Pro and Slim yet, so a direct size-for-size comparison isn’t possible until more details land closer to launch.
Timing: Why This Comparison Matters Right Now
Oura Ring 5 is already shipping and in wide use. Circular Ring 3 Pro and Ring 3 Slim were just announced and aren’t expected to hit the market until early 2027. That gap matters: anyone tracking what’s coming next in the smart ring space has months to watch how Circular’s claims hold up before committing, while Oura remains the safer, proven pick today.

Which One Should You Watch?
- Choose Oura Ring 5 if proven sleep and health tracking, physician-connected care features, and an already-available product matter most.
