These two wearables get compared constantly, and on paper they barely overlap. The Huawei Watch D3 is a blood pressure device you wear as a watch. The Oura Ring 5 is a sleep and recovery tracker you forget you’re wearing. Which one is right depends almost entirely on the question you’re trying to answer about your body.

Blood Pressure: Only One of Them Actually Measures It

This is the single biggest difference. The Watch D3 has a mechanical airbag inside the strap that inflates against your wrist, paired with a pressure sensor and a medically certified algorithm. That is a real measurement, the same principle as the cuff in a clinic, and it can run automatically overnight.

Oura Ring 5 reports blood pressure signal trends from its optical sensors. Useful for spotting a direction of travel over weeks, but it is not a reading you can take to a doctor. If a clinician has asked you to log blood pressure, that settles the comparison on its own.

Sleep and Recovery: The Ring Wins on Comfort and Track Record

A ring is simply easier to sleep in than a watch with a cuff in the band. Oura has spent years refining sleep staging, HRV and temperature baselines, and Health Radar adds cardiovascular age and nighttime breathing insight. The Watch D3 tracks sleep competently and can add overnight blood pressure checks that no ring can match — but if your main goal is understanding rest and recovery, the ring is the more pleasant and more proven tool.

Daily Use, Battery and Cost of Ownership

Battery life is roughly a wash: around six days for the Watch D3 (less with nightly blood pressure on) and six to nine days for the ring. The bigger long-term difference is the Oura membership, which gates the full feature set. Huawei charges nothing beyond the hardware. The watch also gives you a screen, notifications and built-in GPS for outdoor workouts; the ring gives you none of that and relies on your phone.

The Short Answer

  • Buy the Huawei Watch D3 if blood pressure, ECG or heart health monitoring is the reason you’re shopping at all.
  • Buy the Oura Ring 5 if sleep quality, HRV and recovery guidance matter most and you don’t want a screen on your wrist.
  • Consider both only if you genuinely need clinical-grade blood pressure and deep sleep data — the two devices complement rather than duplicate each other.
